A plein air study of the much loved Flannel flower. The velvet soft petals and the flower face that follows the sun.

Treescapes - Looking Up
A collection of observational paintings of the tree tops of a small wood of Eucalyptus trees (Casuarina Glauca and Eucalyptus Swamp Mahogany) in view from my home studio. This was an exploration of the tree colours and tones in varying natural light conditions. All were painted on consecutive days during the September 2021 lockdown.
I painted these as part of the Strada easel challenge to paint from life for 30 days.

Way up there in the Swamp Gums the Cockatoos screech their morning song, the suns first rays land on the closest branches and I see lemon light dripping from the tips like honey from a spoon.

The Kookaburra perches contentedly on the back fence hoping to sight a worm or two until the noisy Miner bird chases him away.

Lost In The Canopy
Lost In The Canopy

This is my favourite of the challenge paintings so far. Painted on Day 8. I was absorbed in the landscape as the birds sang their morning song. A painting I will refer to for future works.

Drips of Lemon Light
Drips of Lemon Light

Lemon light founds its way onto the leaves despite the cloudy day. I experimented with a little pthalo for the shadow areas.

She-Oaks and Swamp Gums
She-Oaks and Swamp Gums

As I painted the She-Oaks swayed with the Swamp Gums in the strong afternoon breeze, so what I've painted are the obvious shapes I could see like the russet red branches of the Swamp Gums, pink on the sun kissed tips
